Depends on your definition of chasing. We like when girls express interest and take the initiative, but continuing to seek out someone who’s actively avoiding or rebuffing you can give us the ick.

We were long distance for the summer, but now that we’re back at school I wanted to try again I’m not sure if he seems that interested though

In that case, yes, just try again and try to talk to him! That’s not even “chasing”, that’s just taking the initiative.

Like the word “chasing” to me implies that you’re continuing to pursue or seek someone or something who’s actively fleeing or evading you. It doesn’t sound in this case like he’s evading you, in which case I think taking the initiative to pursue him is something that the vast majority of guys would like.
