i feel like approaching women isnt really appropriate unless it's a public space or a party/bar. i would try your luck by meeting people through mutual friends just at some gatherings/parties they host

Ask questions. Is she in your class? Ask questions on the material or the teacher or the assignments. People like helping. People like feeling needed. Ask for help and based on that conversation, use their body language and tone to tell if they’re interested and friendly.
