it's not *that* different from other age groups, but I'm sure that to the extent it is different, it's social media.

Young women are increasingly more involved in politics. Young men are less so. It’s creating a divide.

There are some men that will always love oppressing women, it doesn’t matter age. And there are some women that will engage with the oppression of themselves because they believe it’s their place and they need to be liked by men to the point they intentionally place themselves and their needs lower than men.

Social media and the media in general make the division between genders massive even if we truly aren’t that different. Men are often told tradition needs to be followed while women are told tradition needs to be broken. Both have their merits but because there’s such a division it is hard to see that

I can agree that people should not use their gender to excuse ANY behavior. My original response at the start of the post however was to a woman who said that ALL men have specific privileges over women. My point was that you cannot generalize like that because 1. Most men do not have the same privileges. And 2. Everyone has different privileges that they can take advantage of. I don’t think we are very far off from one another we are just on two parallel lines juxtaposed

The left puts men down while raising women up all while calling it equal. Women love the advantage. Men feel it’s a spit in the face.

That isn’t always true and is a broad generalization. I know liberal men and republican women as well. The liberal men I talk to say that it is freeing for them to not be stuck to gender norms and things like that while the republican women talk about how they feel uncertain with how they are going to live on a single paycheck and need to find help and community. Both are understandable in those areas

Damn young men do not care about politics

Meanwhile young women are the most invested in politics. I truly wonder why that is

The left holds men ACCOUNTABLE which many don’t like. No matter how many misandrists exist they still have no power and we still live in a patriarchy.. sometimes you need equity to get equality

All men have male privilege in a patriarchal society, which influences parts of their life that may vary based on other intersectional factors

Men aren’t inherently good or evil because the body parts we’re born with don’t determine our personality, but within a misogynistic society, they all inherently have some level of privilege over women

I do want to play devils advocate here, why are we acting like there are no privileges women get over men? They both have privileges they’re just different ones.

Although i also feel like idk what legislation would even be able to even the playing field in the way you describe privilege (im assuming in corporate/social contexts)

i mean for starters, things like women’s bodily autonomy is being rolled back legally so of course more women are going to become politically invested

what specific privileges do women get over men? genuinely curious on what ur talking abt, especially if there’s anything beyond the bias towards women in custody battles which is more misogyny than actual societal privilege

Freedom from the draft, their own categories in sports (believe it or not is a privilege), they get their specialized medical fields, no social pressure to be stoic all the time, statically women get shorter criminal sentences, you get the assumption that someone feels safe around you, and you get every privilege that comes with being on the receiving end of chivalry. Everyone has privilege, you just refuse to acknowledge yours.

the thing is all of us would give every single one of those things up to get even a smidge of the privilege men have. idk why you guys try to convince us this as if we haven’t dealt with shit far worse than any of this bs you’re bringing up

draft is bad in general but freedom from it is not meaningful societal privilege in the usa. do men not also get their own categories in sports? specialized medical fields are a necessity to understanding women’s health, not to mention that over 90% of medical research has been done on only men and things like male pattern baldness have more research than endometriosis iirc. social pressure to be stoic all the time is patriarchy and we get the social pressure to be pretty, nice, and upbeat 24/7

With all due respect you know nothing about me. my brother was murdered by a police officer and my entire family was the face of BLM for 2 months. You want to complain about how awful your life is when everywhere i go i have to be careful to not be murdered by the people who are supposed to protect me. YOU control your life, we can’t control what hand we got dealt to start with, only how it finishes. But when WE blame the fact that we have to work harder than everyone else to succeed WE LOSE.

I am not saying women do not deal with their own problems. I very specifically said they have privileges. Then listed some when requested.

i’ll give u shorter criminal sentences, though i wonder if that is controlled for the type of offense committed. assumption that everyone feels safe around me is nice until u realize i also have to assume that i am never safe. chivalry does not create or enforce larger societal privilege, that is just a historical cultural norm.

Unfortunately I have not experienced chivalry from men. Instead I have been harassed, berated, and raped. Of course I don’t blame all of men but how I have been treated isn’t chivalrous at all. Also women have historically been mistreated in the medical field. My grandmother had cancer and at first the doctors said she was lying about the pain she had to get high on medication. Personally the prison sentence thing will never be a benefit to me as I don’t commit crimes lol

My goal here is not to say women have it perfect and men have it shitty, my goal is just to express that everyone has positives in their life and if we only worry about the awful hands we get then we will be stuck in a cycle of pain and misery for generations.

i’m saying that some of the things u listed as privileges are not actual societal privileges on a macro scale. i’m sorry that ur brother was killed and that u had to deal with the public eye on ur family after that, that’s truly harrowing. nobody controls the hand they are dealt at birth. u can control ur life in similar ways i can control mine. ur grief is clearly more with white supremacy than with any type of privilege women may receive in society. i hope u can continue to heal.

I do not have any grief with anything. I have been blessed beyond i can even begin to express. My goal here is to uplift everyone, not attack them. I wish people realized that I want to see everyone succeed and there are things we have to deal with outside of our control. It is our responsibility however to migrate past that adversity and achieve success anyways. If we continue to make excuses for why our life sucks then we’re never going to get anywhere

Unfortunately my rapist is perfectly fine but nothing I can do about it. Agreed everyone has different opportunities. As a white woman I have privilege compared to my black friends and sometimes that is obvious. Having those privileges isn’t necessarily a bad thing or something that can be controlled. The way you use it is important though. I have dealt with guys that try to use the fact that they are men to excuse behavior and I have dealt with women that do the same. It shouldn’t be an excuse

if we do not acknowledge systemic imbalances they don’t get resolved ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i think u are having trouble differentiating systemic privileges from “benevolent” sexism in general, and also don’t understand how areas like the medical field and medical research discount and undervalue women, even more so for women of color. that doesn’t mean u can’t learn!

I have a highschool friend who became right leaning independent. And she admitted that most of her exes (she hadn’t been single for more than 3 months since we were 13 and she was active by 16) didn’t really care about her “O” I gaped at her and was like “and you stayed?!” She was like well not everything’s about sex… right?

I was like no, but if you’re in a relationship and he’s not enthusiastic about putting in work for your pleasure why are you in a relationship? Just be single if you’re not enjoying tf out of each other. And she shook her head and was like “you always were so much stronger and didn’t care like the rest of us did.” I always cared, about everything but I never saw the point of fake enjoying something, anything.

thats awful but like thats not because your a man…? how would u feel if i went in a community of black people and started talking ab how yall have your own privileges over white people when youre tryna talk about the fucked up shit you have to deal with. that’s basically what ur doing in here. you want everyone to succeed but we have to recognize how the system works against us before we can fight back and idrk how your point that “women have specific privileges” or whatever actually helps us?
