I think it’s ridiculous. They are showing anger or resentment for the political system and yet they are a willing accomplice in continuing to harm us.

that he supports an unserious politician who’s only goal is to raise funds during the presidential election while ignoring getting seats for local and state elections

That he spent time voting for absolutely no reason

the green party in general is so unserious, why don’t they run a candidate who’s actually won a semi prestige election? why is jill stein always the nominee? why was her running mate a transphobe? why did she say she was gonna pardon the insurrectionists? she’s a grifter

Protest vote to log my dissent from a dead party as opposed to being seen as a non voter and consequently not being factored into future political calculus nearly as much. Don’t actually support her so much as see voting for her as a useful vehicle of voicing my opinion in an already blue state

I mean one of my majors is math, and I’m at probably the best program in the country for it

I don’t rly see how that’s the case if you live in an already overwhelmingly blue state

I think it’s better to vote than not at all tbh. Apathy and disengagement are the ultimate death of representative politics imo

voting for someone you don’t support to “stick it to the man” doesn’t make sense to me. might as well write in a candidate you actually agree with atp

It’s not to stick it to the man per se, it’s to indicate the direction I want the party to move in or else they won’t get my vote. Greens are actually on the ballot as opposed to a write in, so they have more momentum & numbers. They’re a thorn in the side that forces consideration bc of said number of votes “lost” associated, a random write in for Zohran or whoever doesn’t do anything in terms of party political considerations

Idk you should ask him what the odds are of a jill stein vote making anything better for anyone. I didn’t love Kamala and sure as fuck wasn’t gonna vote for trump but I know how the electoral college works

It doesn’t matter how “blue” a state is, voting is important. If you truly like the Green Party volunteer with them. Try to get them elected in your home state. But I would never date someone who voted for anyone besides Kamala in the last election.

I think voting is important, that's why I voted. It being a blue state absolutely matters bc it means you don't need to worry about being forced to choose a truly terrible politician like Kamala Harris the way you would in a state that could go either way. The dems are cooked, & they'll continue losing be their leadership is entirely lacking of any backbone or vision let alone care for the people they purport to represent. Yeah I’ll be volunteering

A vote for Kamala wouldn’t have done anything, she won my home state anyway, and she lost the election anyway (popular and electoral, she’s a particularly fake politician with a talent for dissuading voters imo if she can manage to lose to the train wreck fascist that is Trump). Voting for stein doesn’t make anything better in the near term, but in the long term it pushes the dems to adopt green policies since they keep leaving votes on the table to other parties and doing that would help them

Ah ok, didn’t realize you were in a completely safe blue state, that does make it a bit less harmful to throw away a vote ig. And yeah I get what you’re saying about making your voice heard and wanting to pressure the Democratic Party to adopt more green policies, my issue is that jill stein is a shill. I mean you’re gonna criticize Kamala for being fake then support jill stein? She’s not even a serious politician

Kamala gets a lot of flak for being fake but I don’t think that’s mostly her fault. Biden fucked her over by not stepping aside sooner and by bypassing the primary to make her the candidate, I don’t think the best candidate could recover from that. I think she was average and unlucky

But I do completely understand your desire to pressure the Democratic Party to change, I might have been too harsh in my judgement of your preferred method. I don’t think voting for a fake candidate like jill is the way to go but also harm reduction, while practical, won’t accomplish change either.
