I told my mom that I’m planning to stay single for the rest of my life because I don’t see myself having a partner. She looked at me like I was stupid for saying that. Am I crazy? Do moms actually want their son to get married?

It does sound very crazy. But that’s OK. You do as long as it’s not an action made out of fear (intimacy, vulnerability, ….) you’re good

I don’t think it’s crazy. It’s perfectly valid to choose to be single if it suits you. Parents often want their children to get married, because a majority of people see it as one of life’s greater accomplishments and joys, but that doesn’t mean you have to fulfill that.

My mom reacted the same why when I told her this but it was about kids. I think moms just don’t understand why their kids don’t want what they have and have a hard time understanding the benefit you’d get out of it. But I would also recommend finding a friend who feels the same. A two income household is easier than one. That’s what I’m planning on doing

That’s what I’m struggling with:/ It feels like I don’t have a choice. Sounds dumb. I know

That’s very true. I’m very selective with friends. I’ve noticed that I only pick guy friends because I can be natural around them

And having a two income household with no kids and no romantic commitments would be really freeing! You can both do whatever you want without having to worry about things like joint bank accounts (which not all married partners do) or them cheating on you!

Not if you want to be a dad with someone you love.
