It’s heavily age & honestly culture dependent. I’m sure there are those who do expect it but also plenty of us who are more than happy to split. It really just depends.

I usually plan to split unless he explicitly says he wants to pay for it all

Eh I live in a liberal place and most couples I know take turns or split or whatever. But I’ve definitely heard the sentiment men should pay from the more conservative girls around and like a couple of (kinda hypocritical) liberal girls who just kinda like traditional dating ideals for some things

For the first date (possibly two) I prefer men to pay for the meal/date but I would pay for desert,tip,gas extra whatever just as a kind of “hey I took you out so imma pay for this” from the guy and a “wow i really enjoyed this I want this to last longer so I’ll pay for this” from the woman

Men have always paid for dates, the issue is men have no game this day and age and end up loosing on the date

I’ve never actually split tbh but I don’t see a problem with it. My partner and I have always just kinda gone off the premise of whoever plans the date/invites you covers it

Most people including me do expect whoever asks for the first date to pay though, and often that will be the guy (though it wasn’t in my case)
