Technically he wasn’t TOTALLY honest with me at first, but what he said was close enough to the truth for me. I don’t care what political party he identifies with as long as he has good reasons for it and no overly discriminatory beliefs (e.g., strict gender roles, racism beyond unconscious bias, unconscious bias that he is unwilling to address, willingness to harm people for characteristics beyond their control). We work because we are open minded and genuinely interested in each other’s views.

Not all Trump supporters actually think Trump is sexist and racist. To a certain degree, we might not even know his true stance in race and gender. He might not even know. It’s clear he is a narcissist, seeks attention, and lacks internal reflection and therefore honest core values. He panders to sexist, racist groups, which is bad, but many people might not expect much harm to come from that. A vote isn’t a love letter, it’s a strategic step toward a hopefully better world.
