I need this to be honestly answered, sat through a Title IX presentation. Had a few questions shit speakers. How can one be transgender and nonbinary. Isn’t nonbinary to not identify as either gender identity like man or woman.

Transgender means you identify as something other than what was assigned to you at birth, and includes nonbinary Most people are assigned male/boy or female/girl

nonbinary falls under the trans umbrella. some nonbinary people identify as transgender because they are not identifying as the gender they were assigned at birth

But if they aren’t identifying as the other gender there isn’t anything else for them to identify as how would it make them trans wouldn’t they just be nonbinary then?

There is something for them to identify as, it’s just not a man or woman

What else is there to identify as, also is there not a better umbrella term that can be used because trans doesn’t seem that inclusive of a term, since it has a preset definition.

No because you are born female or male and if apart of the .00001% that’s intersex than intersex. But that didn’t really answer my question. See 1 and 2 are helping not you.

If someone is born male or female and identifies as nonbinary, they are trans. Trans means identifying with a gender that was not assigned at birth

So intersex is as common as 1% of the population btw. That’s any chromosome that isn’t XY or XX. Non-binary is someone who doesn’t identify with the expectation of gender. Someone who doesn’t see themselves as a man or a woman. Trans is the umbrella term for anyone who doesn’t identify as what their chromosomes show.

Then you can’t be trans if you are nonbinary; because that means to be the opposite of what you were born as, right or is that not right. Isn’t a transman an afab but identifies with the gender expression of man. Thats what’s confusing to me. Because I see one starting off as trans believing to be the other and then realizing they are neither, and decidingly so being nonbinary but you can’t be both at the same time.

It doesn’t mean the opposite, it means different. Nonbinary is not man or woman therefore it is different. Therefore most nonbinary people are trans because they were called boys and girls when born

I really do appreciate the explanation, no I still don’t grasp it nor understand it. The prefix trans does not mean different and before you ask I’m on the spectrum and yes I take things way too literal.

if it makes you feel better, you do not have to think this hard about other people’s labels. some nonbinary people don’t identify as transgender, good for them! some nonbinary people do identify as transgender, good for them!
