Hi OP, Ask if it’s insured and fully covered. They should be able to tell you and get it in writing. Then what happens is the doctor will still bill you and you basically have to be ready to say it isn’t due to you and know the law.

our healthcare system and everything around it makes me so mad. I had to fight w my insurance and local foundations to see a neurologist who specializes in just epilepsy (spent his residency only researching epilepsy) because my old neurologist just said “yeah idk why you’re still having 100 seizures a month, not my problem”, then my epilepsy specialist said I was taking the wrong medication combo lmaaooo. I went from 100 a month to ~40 a year. Not completely seizure free but a huge improvement

Not related to cost, although it was really fucking expensive, I remember my mom had a straight up uterine hemorrhage (which was literally documented on her chart) and the insurance later said we’d have to pay the ER bill in full because it could’ve been “normal menstrual activity” 🤦‍♀️

Nope. The drs office. They want to charge $33,090.84 for a single polyp removal procedure. My insurance is covering 92% of it. And that’s another issue. But the biggest thing is that a simple procedure is $33,000.

They gave me an itemized bill. The charged $20,000 for the polyp removal. When the national average for it, is $5,000-$6000. So they overcharged by a lot. They also have 3 separate charges for anesthesia.

The best part. They couldve removed this polyp 4 months ago when I had an SIS procedure done. The doctor literally said “oh I was gonna just cut it, but you might not even need it removed.” Then proceeded to tell me AFTER that I needed this separate procedure.

In California, surprise billing isn’t allowed. Other states may not have that but there is recourse when you have it in writing. Basically to deal with doctors today is knowing the small claims and civil courts. Also letting it ding your credit in the meantime as you dispute it and get it erased.

The one place I got banned from (because I refused to take a diabetic medication when I’m not diabetic) the other told me I had to take birth control, and when I said no. They kicked me out and now this is the only other office near me

I’m supposed to be. But there’s 3 charges. $1,000 for one, $4,350 for another and $600 for another. Turns out. One is for the nurse, one is for the anesthesiologist, and the other is the actual price of the anesthesia.

Update. Called them and they said that the surgery itself is actually only supposed to be $13,367. But because they have a contract with the insurance company, they charge more. “You pay less” and then they get a bigger payout. But then they also said that I’m also getting a separate bill from the doctor.

I have health insurance. And “stop being poor” is such a stupid thing to say. My fiance and I both work full time jobs, and barely have enough money to do things that aren’t expensive. Like going to dinners, vacations. How can I stop being poor when the economy is how it is. Idiot.
