I think we have a “human loneliness epidemic” amongst all young people, not just men, and it’s not any individual’s fault and is a big problem. Personally I do think on top of that it’s a bit more severe for many men and the incel/alt right pipeline snapping up men is not fully their fault and is preying on vulnerable teen boys. That being said, that doesn’t excuse their hateful actions and words and these belief systems often trap men in loneliness of their own creation.
ya i agree w this. i think there’s a loneliness crisis for everyone honestly, but since women often have built more closeness within their communities some of us have a buffer. but as a girl with few female friends it is pretty lonely out here. the difference is IM not turning to redpill and blaming women to solve it
I’m lonely too. It’s weird cause I lean more conservative in many ways but I’m starting to see aspects of “conservative” men I don’t appreciate. Like there’s a difference between traditional values and being an ass. But being an ass is also seen on the left. So I don’t think it’s political. I think it’s coming down to cope and incompetence
I’m not proposing any solution, I’m just saying you’re a psycho if you’re not sympathetic. Saying it’s “natural selection” is essentially callously blaming the men for their own loneliness and shrugging your shoulders, saying “that’s life.” It’s kinda cruel, and we shouldn’t do that.
I agree I’m not saying ignore it I think OP was kind of extreme too but I’m saying comparing it to murdering someone is even more cruel, I’ve had chronic depression and have attempted before I’m aware about how being lonely can make people feel, I have sympathy towards them but blaming women isn’t the answer
No it’s not, it’s a broad, liberal cultural commentary written about in thinkpieces in the likes of the new york times. And even if it was, just because you don’t agree with the name of it doesn’t mean you should do a radical 180 and blame men for their problems by calling it “natural selection.”
Strawman argument, no one said blaming women is the answer. I’m not blaming women, I’m attacking the logic of the argument because that SAME LOGIC should blame women for their problems. If you have sympathy toward loneliness, you should understand that blaming those people is insane, like how I’m saying blaming women for being murdered is EQUALLY INSANE.
Ohh okay I see you were using an extreme to prove a point, I’m saying that people who generally use that phrase mle usually are like the incel guy and only use it to justify what they do and blame women, now actual lonelyness no it’s not smth that people should be blamed for unless their actions caused that, but if it’s just for being who they are then no people shouldn’t be hurt
I think males and females are equally as lonely. I think that females are quieter about their loneliness in some regard. Most podcasts who talk about the issue or males and males commit suicide successfully more frequently than females do. But I think both genders are impacted equally by the loneliness epidemic. I know for a fact, I'm lonely. I feel like I can't really connect with anyone on a deep level. The last time I did, I ended up really hurt so now I'm scared.
Eh I don’t agree here. I don’t think that’s the problem. I think a big proportion of loneliness is anxiety induced. But another part is men not acting like men and stepping into that roll to be a provider and protector then asking women to lower the bar of entry into their life. Like no step up and evolve. Find what your downfall is be it mentally through education, physically by being active, or emotionally by getting out of their comfort zones and getting more socially aware.
This is exactly it. The MLP is a combination of an existing issue with a self-inflicted one, and people often conflate the two when discussing the MLP. I think if we’re able to address the broader loneliness crisis and get some of these guys to actually go out and touch grass, some of the worse social tendencies will improve. It’s really easy to become an extremist in an echo chamber. Connection to others often fixes that.
It is in no way the same. In the case of spousal murder, the victim is not an active agent in their own murder; an external agent is entirely responsible for their death. In the case of a male loneliness suicide, the man killing himself is the active agent in his death. By equating the two in your logic, you are implying that the man is not responsible for the act of killing himself (something he has complete power over, unlike a spousal murder victim).
But assuming your logic for a second, wherein both cases no responsibility can be assigned to the victim, who is responsible for the lonely man‘s death? „Women“ in general? Society for abandoning him? This perspective implies that you think men have no agency in solving their own loneliness, which is absolutely not true. I did it myself. It was rough, took a long time, and I do not in any way want to dismiss how painful loneliness can feel as someone who has been there too, but I got through.
But I have to stress that the mindset you have where the world is against you, and that other people are solely to blame for your problems and there is nothing you can do about it is a complete fiction. Believe me it is the biggest thing preventing you from being able to interact with people and make friends (both emotionally and in how other people perceive you). So, let it go. Men and women are, at the end of the day, just people, as are you. Treat them as you would want them to treat you.
False equivocation. Murder in this case is caused by the man being violent towards the woman- something we know is perpetrated by men because of the culture of hyperviolence that surrounds masculinity. Male loneliness, similarly, is also a product of the toxic culture that hypermasculinity creates. Men are expected to be violent, extremely sexual, and opposite of women. Being "girly" or "a pussy" is an insult to the highest degree to some men. Because of this, being sensitive and emotionally-
-vulnerable are also stigmatized, as those are traits that are associated with femininity or motherhood, something that men who perpetrate ideas of hypermasculinity abhor. This isn't to say that male loneliness is all because of men. Women are definitely avoidant of guys (albeit it's for good reason, nobody wants to be raped and/or killed), but I believe from the evidence I've seen, that the cause of loneliness in men is mostly how they are brought up and how they are told to reject femininity.
