why is it considered slutty if a woman likes to get men off and doesn’t necessarily need anything in return, but it’s not slutty if a man is a munch. (woman here who just got into an argument about this)

Honestly speaking guys who are easy look cheap. If u enjoy casual sex, I respect that. It’s ur life. To me, i hold more special meaning to sex and against casual sex, so I can say i dont find a promiscuous guy attractive. But if a guy enjoys sex w anyone and calls a girl out for doing the same, i think that’s self-centered and kinda stupid lol

It’s generally not considered “slutty” for men to have casual sex. In most western dating cultures it’s actually encouraged. They’re seen more as “players” or “studs”.

Only slutty men think that’s cool or encouraged. I don’t know why you think “most western dating cultures” is even a thing. If you grew up in a religious household, or one that had principles and morals against casual sex, you would not be raised to encourage that slutty behavior.

There’s various different spheres. In nonreligious spaces, boys can get bullied for being virgins while girls can get hate for a high body count. In religious cultures, there are MANY women who report being given the “licked cupcake” speech. Men get told to abstain but are less likely to be compared to chewed gum.

It’s funny you bring up religion because a study in 2006 found that those imprisoned with consistent religious involvement were liked to a higher number of victims, younger victims, and more sexual offense convicted. Of the almost 4000 male offenders, 93% described themselves as religious. (Ojp.gov)

You’re projecting your own viewpoints over facts. Religion does not create moral superiority, nor do your delusions of turning a blind eye to western cultures. Not only is this evident in the existence of the words studs and players- disproportionately applied to men (never mind who says it), and slut and whore disproportionately applied to women (with man-whore being a male equivalent, but the existence of this word indicates an exceptional use of the word- or else men would also just be —

— called “whores”. But there’s also just an exhaustive amount of studies on gender differences and hypocrisy in male promiscuity. (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, link.springer.com). Sex and Temperament in Three Primitive Societies is a book that literally flips this gender norm- something that wouldn’t happen if these phenomenons are not present, as you claim.

You also just outed yourself as chronically online. The association of the word “gooner” to predominantly males and you yourself not minding women who enjoys having casual sex is relatively recent, and definitely not indicative of a wide public perception. Perhaps your own personal views do not translate to overall cultural norms.

That’s an interesting study. I think religions attract a lot of bad men (and women) for two reasons: power structures that favor men, and moral license. If you’re a child molester, a religion that preaches forgiveness and compares your sin with lighter sins can give the impression that molesting children is ok because you get forgiveness.

I don’t care what some research study from 19 years ago claims. A lot of studies are BS. I don’t believe religion creates moral superiority. I don’t believe “western culture” is a concept. We are not a monolithic society. Yeah. Words are a thing. So what? Also don’t care about some random book. People can write whatever they want. And yeah, there are no “cultural norms”. We all have own own personal views. That’s the point I’m making.

Just so you know, being a “player” is a derogatory term. It’s like being a pimp. Yeah, some people who like pimps are going to praise you, but most people think pimps are bad. If you are getting called a player, that’s not a good thing. But whatever. Think whatever you want.

just because you don’t believe in cultural norms or lack the higher lever thinking / education to recognize them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. if you start paying attention you can see examples of the sexual double standard everywhere. how many terms there are to degrade promiscuos women vs terms for men. it’s in the language used. it’s in media, movies, even fuckin memes. women are called ran through and myths about their genitalia are spread. let’s not be ignorant.

Yes, men can be for the streets and ran through. You can say I’m in a closed off bubble and I can say you’re also in a bubble. There are endless variety of perspectives online. What I’m trying to say is; SOME people have a double standard. There’s always going to be shit like that. You’ve got entire communities on TikTok who are convinced that all men are bad people. Also just so you know, the “sexual double standard upheld for centuries” Is total BS. back “centuries” ago they didn’t have condoms or birth control. People were far less likely to have sex due to incurable diseases that killed people who were promiscuous. That’s the word they used to apply to both sexes. Yes: having casual sex was seen as a harmful VICE. that’s the point. It was never celebrated for men. The reason we call it “hookup culture” (sexual revolution)

That’s why the Bible and so many world religions are so adamant about marriage before sex. For centuries and thousands of years casual sex was seen as very dangerous act. Even masturbation was considered harmful up until very, very recently.

You realize there’s tons of cultures globally and throughout history that have zero problem with casual sex and that the Romans, for example, used so much birth control that the plant they used for it went extinct right? You’re making an insane sweeping statement about thousands of years of human culture that isn’t even grounded in reality.

even in earlier time periods where premarital sex/ promiscuity was more discouraged for both genders, it was still policed far more in women. i’m really surprised that you aren’t getting that. you don’t seem to be that uneducated. in many cultures men’s extramarital affairs were tolerated or even expected, while women could be branded ruined. biblical/ religious texts frequently condemn women’s sexuality more harshly than men.

If you want an example of sexual double standards, just read Deuteronomy 22, which lists Jewish laws followed for centuries. Newly married women could be tested for virginity by their husbands and killed if not proven innocent. They were also expected to cry for help if raped, or else they would be killed. Both men and women could be killed for premarital sex, but only women had virginity tests and proof of rape requirements.

Male rapists could escape death only by MARRYING THE WOMAN THEY RAPED. If she was not married or betrothed, she could be given away in marriage. The rapist would have to pay her father though. Also, he was legally obligated to marry her. Hence, while everyone got harsh penalties for sex, only women had to prove their innocence via vagina inspection or correct reaction to rape, and only male rapists had a way out of the death penalty. Hence, the law followed for centuries was unequal.

Did you know that HIV is actually a recent development? First appeared in humans about a century ago. Also, people did not discover microbes until the 15th century, meaning that for most of human history we had no idea how diseases spread and probably very little understanding of STDs. STDs likely were NOT a contributing factor in cultural sex laws.
