i’ll assume you’re asking genuinely and explain. the tweet you’re referencing here is clearly a tongue in cheek response to the common lesbophobic idea that lesbians will inevitably be attracted to men. the op is making a crass retort. it’s like the “i’ll fuck your mom” jokes— it’s not meant to be taken as a serious threat. i doubt many people are sincerely endorsing participating in adultery.

the reason the trope keeps showing up in media is because people continue to hold homophobic beliefs that are more rooted in anxiety and unfamiliarity than reality

I'm being genuine as hell. I know you say it's not meant to be taken seriously but it sounds like it's meant to be taken seriously when it's a constant trope being said by sapphic people themselves. so I don’t think it’s just Lesophobia by people that aren’t lesbians. And I don’t think that that’s the fairest characterization of what’s happening here.

think about how many songs by straight women talk about stealing someone’s man or by straight men talk about stealing someone’s girl. it’s signaling desirability and status in a hyperbolic way. it’s strange to latch onto it as a specifically lesbian phenomenon when it’s a culturally ubiquitous sentiment that is orders of magnitude more common in straight artists

also, all of these examples you’re citing to inform your “why do lesbians do this” question are, notably, not examples of lesbians doing this, but of invented scenarios. song lyrics. movie tropes. tweets. is this actually something you have seen happen in real life?

Sure, they make songs about stealing someone’s husband, man, girl, or wife—but not about stealing a lesbian’s girlfriend. The only thing comparable to your point is songs about “bulldyking,” but it’s generally understood that that’s wrong in that specific way, and it almost always gets called out. No one calls out the thing I’m criticizing.

Your evidence is a tweet that has 152 likes? I don’t this that’s substantial enough. And like 2 said there’s SO many songs about men cheating on women or trying to get someone else’s girlfriend. Why are you pointing this at lesbians? Also have you ever listened to the songs you suggested as an example?

My evidence is not just a tweet with 152 like. My evidence is evidenced by the fact that the occurrence has a media trope attributed to it, and I just used the tweet as an example of it. I could give you anecdotal evidence of things that have happened to me personally, but that wouldn’t do anything for us in his current conversation.

There is media for many things. This does not make them true. Stereotypes are much more common in media than they are in reality. You could find tweets and songs about everything.
