Why do people still like to use the South as a punching bag to offload problems that the rest of the country has? Like someone said in the comments, homophobia isn’t just a southern thing. People pretend like it is to avoid responsibility elsewhere
Why is homophobia so normal in the south? A lot of my girl friends ask why I don’t open up to them but they are so homophobic, always calling guys slurs making fun of gays. I love them but I get so uncomfortable cause I can’t tell them about the real me!

It’s not JUST a southern thing but you are lying to yourself if you don’t think racism and homophobia are significantly more prevalent in the south. Could be because it’s more religious or just rooted beliefs from the confederacy. The union really fucked up by not completely dismantling the confederates after the civil war.

I mean the south HAS earned its reputation ever since the whole “slavery/confederation/civil war” thing. Yes the problems arent unique to the south but the south is objectively more intense about it

exactly!! and especially for racism too. idk if the post was using it as a punching bag bc maybe they were just asking why ppl are more openly discriminatory there

but you’re 100% correct and it’s so ignorant to limit it to a certain region and not admit it’s everywhere (but obviously at different severities)
