A good test to do with people who make fun of you is make fun of them back, with the exact same energy, and see how they react. My bf makes fun of me playfully, and makes fun of himself and laughs along when I do it. When I return his energy, he shows that he can take his own jokes and therefore sees them as jokes. If you get someone who’s trying to manipulate or control you with these comments, they will often get mad when you do it back. Very telling.
