What's a better way to say "female professor"? Or is using "female" in that context fine?

Why not just professor?

Female is fine when it’s used as an adjective and needs to be referred to as a woman for some reason for that context. Like female athlete, female artist, female professor. Referring to women in general socially as females is what’s weird

I'm specifically discussing how the women in the field get treated; "you should hear the things my peers have said about the [female professors]"
