Never dated. Are these reasonable standards? Atheist, liberal, intelligent, mature, understanding, easy going, strong communication skills, has career goals, and healthy emotion regulation. Physically just not fatter than me please (~30% body fat) (23F)

Think having a specific body fat percentage is weird but besides that all understandable and normal

I think yes, but its probably going to be hard to find, imo some of those are just basic traits people should have

How is it not reasonable? Religion goes against my core values. Anyone religious or even spiritual would be wildly incompatible for me. Why would I not look for like minded people then? It’s the same reason why Christians look for other Christians, Muslim with other Muslim, etc.

Then you have a reductionist view on religion and thiesm. Some of the smartest people and most open-minded people in the world are religious. It just happened to some of the dumbest people and least open-minded people in the world are also religious. But they’re not monolithic. You already probably hold most of the broad views that Christian hold anyway even without being an active Christian. So no, I don’t think it’s reasonable.

I think it’s reasonable to not want someone religious if your not able to be with someone like that, Christianity for me caused severe trauma in my life so I wouldn’t be able to date a Christian because it would cause flashbacks people don’t have to date religious people

They don’t have to take you to church with them… religion is a private practice

so would you have the same view of a christian wanting to date another christianv

upvote 11 downvote

But why is it bad to not want to be with someone who practices at all? Your saying all this like it’s a requirement

And trust me people who are super religious will expect you to go

upvote 14 downvote

if that Christian is not allowing themselves to date other people of different religions then that is regressive and close minded

If you’re dating someone forcing you to go, you got bigger problems than them being a Christian

upvote 0 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #9 22h

You can dress it up with all the nuance and culture you want, but when you strip it down, the core premise is still literally just believing in magic. It’s not "reductionist" to point out the actual foundation of what they're practicing. I could never respect another person as my equal who follows religion. I can respect them as a human and that they are living a delusional life sure, not my problem. Dating them? Absolutely not.

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 22h

It’s bad because of the fact that you’re limiting the people that you could date because something that helps them make sense of the world around them that doesn’t concern you. It’s just as close minded as you think religious people are

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 22h

The fact that you think religion is magic means you haven’t even talked to people who think about the religions critically.. which shows me that you’re just as close minded as you believe, the people practicing religion are. I think you live in a bubble.

I grew up in a religious household dipshit. Forced to go to church with all the other loonies. It’s a man made concept that only continues today through the indoctrination of children. I’m not here to help you deconstruct. Religious people and atheists are fundamentally not compatible.

You do realize a lot of that deconstruction shit is actual cult shit. If you don’t wanna believe anymore, you don’t have to believe and you don’t need a community to do that. If you follow the Gregorian calendar, don’t talk to me about indoctrination.

yeah but to reduce someone’s body to numbers like that is just kind of idk rude? you can go for someone you find attractive, i encourage you to. but if your only requirement for their looks is they fit within some body fat percentage range then you’re treating someone being fat as like the worst thing that can happen to them. everybody has preferences but that doesn’t mean those preferences are divorced from bias or social pressure

Idk if you’ve looked it up but 30% is pretty chubby. I use body fat percentage as height and weight vary for everyone. So body fat is the most accurate. Some could see me as too fat and out of their ideal range and I’d understand that. It’s again just a preference.

upvote 4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 18h

yeah but you’re still reducing people’s attractiveness to you as just their body fat percentage. idk in my experience if you’re looking for strict parameters on what someone’s body is like you end up ruling out a lot of people you have a connection with or do find attractive, and end up reducing them to numbers instead of people

OP do NOT listen to these mfs lmfao!!!! Date who you have a preference for! Men do it all the time. Women are allowed to go for people who they find attractive too Jesus Christ. Me personally I wouldn’t date an ugly or fat guy. Did it once.. nope won’t do it again! Women being told to ignore physical appearance is a scam and bad for everyone

Actually they are trying to make her feel bad for having an idea about how fat she’s cool w her partner being, which accomplishes the same thing. Men objectify women all the time I don’t wanna see anyone trying to make a girl feel bad for the way she stated having a preference for a partner’s weight. Shes allowed to have it. The double standards are crazy

i also would think it’s weird if a man said he won’t date a woman unless she’s within a specific range of body fat percentages. it’s not ok to objectify people period regardless of gender

Anonymous replying to -> #11 10h

All she said was not fatter than her 😂 pretty normal. Like, not offensive even in the slightest. And NOT objectification. It is not her only value. Meanwhile men are out here talking about how women shouldn’t weigh over 100 pounds and body shaming them if they weigh a bit too much for them. Don’t act like this is the same shit. There’s context and nuance to life dude
