just bring up a small not too extreme topic to get a sense of how he leans. but if he happens to differ from you remember who he was before the conversation, and IF that’s a good respectful fair person then don’t throw away a (i’m assuming) good year!

You can’t simultaneously respect someone and vote to enable people who not only don’t respect those people but actively want to harm them. For example I don’t believe it’s possible to both support trans individuals and vote Republican considering republicans are openly set on limiting the rights of trans people. You need to take accountability for your actions

And if you think the example is dramatic look into the trump administrations efforts to literally erase trans history from the stonewall inn monument. There’s nothing there aimed at protecting kids, just some bigots who want to remove people from the history books

like i said if you know them and they’re respectful and kind it shouldn’t matter if they call themselves a democrat or republican. those are just titles they say nothing about a person or what they stand for. the problem with our world is people not accepting people with different opinions and only surrounding themselves with people who agree. look up confirmation bias

“You know”? Well how would they know that? And why would anyone believe it? You keep voting for someone who keeps having them kidnapped and disappeared without due process and then brags about that specific problem like it isn’t one. It’s like voting for Obama and then saying “relax it’s not like I WANT Medicare to pass”

What do you mean it says nothing about what they stand for? The people you chose to empower by definition represent what you stand for. The Republican Party is (just as two very visible examples) erasing trans history and arresting people without due process, which is in direct violation of what’s written in the constitution. That’s real harm to real people.

And if it’s your “opinion” that we shouldn’t adhere to the constitution or that people you disagree with deserve to have their histories erased from public view, then I feel entirely validated in saying that that is a disqualifying factor for me as far as if I want to spend time with you or not.

I’m sorry but that’s not correct. The 5th amendment guarantees due process for anyone on American soil, including undocumented immigrants. This has been supported by numerous Supreme Court cases. Info on this is very easy to find if you want to learn more about it

not everyone who’s republican agrees with those values just as not everyone who’s democrat agrees with those values. the us isn’t blue and red, most are in the middle. stop labeling people as evil just because they go by republican. it tells you nothing about who they are as a person or what they stand for.

It doesn’t matter if you agree or not, if you put trump in office then you’re partially responsible for the things he does. He has always been a racist (look into his discriminatory housing case), he’s always spewed hateful rhetoric about immigrants, and has always broken the law whenever he’s able to. Now as president, he’s sending people to foreign prisons for life without trial (cecot). Those are real people with real lives.

If that sort of thing bothered you, you’d either vote for someone else, not vote, or admit that you made a mistake. If you’re a Republican who’s proud of who they voted for and would do it again, then yes, I believe you’re a bad person. Either that or somewhat ignorant. I mean do you think the right to due process is debatable or up to some sort of personality difference?

Honestly good, because I honestly don’t care. They’re fine with what’s going on so I see no issue. When we have democratic presidents who literally open the door for over a million of them a year to violate our sovereignty, we shouldn’t have to waste time and resources reviewing each plea to stay. If they can’t prove legal status, they need to be removed immediately.

Before our current moment the labels mattered less but since trump took over the Republican Party identifying as a Republican and voting as one essentially means that you’re a trump supporter (except for the very few never trump republicans). Trump is doing horrible things with his power and I personally choose to hold adults accountable for their actions. I think speaking honestly about these things is the best way to bring people together. If we can’t talk about what’s happening then how can

History is full of lessons about what happens when people start to remove rights for certain groups. This is why we have a constitution whose rules we follow unless changed by amendments. If you want to amend the constitution then do that. Otherwise, we should adhere to what’s written in it, regardless of the current hot button issues.

I’m a strong believer in a strong border, which is why I think we need more funding for creating that. However violating the constitution is a slippery slope. Are there any other parts of the document you believe we should ignore?

Also if someone clearly immigrated illegally, it shouldn’t be difficult for the government to win a deportation case against them. Murderers and rapists get trials in this country, why shouldn’t illegal immigrants (civil offense)

Because I agree that most republicans probably don’t personally believe people deserve to spend their life in cecot for having tattoos. Still, many Germans during WWII didnt personally hate Jews, they just voted how they voted and didn’t want to think too much about the consequences.
