I’m considering getting the arm implant for birth control. I’ve read up on it a little but I want to hear other women’s experiences.

I was on it for a while. Loved it. I have low progesterone so it helped balance out my levels. First week I had my whole uterine lining fall out which was hella painful but after that no cramps, no weight fluctuations, no mood swings. It was great. I did have a kinda perma-period but I was also an alcoholic so that definitely didn’t help. Used to have SUPER heavy periods, went to regular tampons etc instead of 3 ultra a day.

I just got mine out because I felt with so many awful side effects, worsened anxiety to where I couldn’t function throughout the day, made me super irritated, bad acne, and gained weight. But hey I wasn’t pregnant after not pulling out!

What were the side effects like? I know what the medical sites say but sometimes that’s not everything

I am also curious about what happens to your whole menstrual cycle, in your case did your period go away completely? did you have phases before/after your normal period window of water weight gain/loss?

So mine may not be like everyone else’s. I have pcos so my periods were already basically nonexistent (in not a healthy way) but I got mine and I did have bleeding for a bit as my body adjusted to it and then it turned to spotting and currently instead of having my period for a week I’ll kinda feel slight cramps and have some slight spotting and bloating but not bad. And I’ve actually lost like 20 lbs since I got on it without active dieting and occasionally working out to keep myself busy

Oh and it’s not like a once a month occasional spotting, it’s a bit more random I feel. Like I’ll go a while without anything

Did you have any other side effects

No not really, my insertion spot was bruised and hurt like a bitch occasionally but other than that no. I did also go on nex cause I have chronic migraines and cannot take another form of birth control for the hormones without it making my migraines worse

Did nex make your migraines worse? I usually get migraines like 2 days before my period and the first day of it.

Nope, but I can’t really compare my migraines to most since the way mine are a disability and worse than most. I don’t know what a normal migraine feels like

That makes sense. If it doesn’t make yours worse hopefully it won’t make my migraines worse either

the last time i was on hormonal birth control i had to sign a waiver that i understood i was at higher risk for stroke. it made my migraines SO much worse, literally parts of my body would go numb, it was so scary. have you been on hormonal bc before? i would honestly recommend IUD before nexplanon

I’m currently on hormonal bc and I want to change it to something that is easier to manage. My best friend had an IUD that literally required surgery to remove bc it literally implanted itself into her uterine wall and was slowly working its way out of it

But also my doctor did remove me from my pills cause that caused my migraines to worsen and have auras. I talked with my doc and she told me straight up that they make migraines worse and more consistent and then gave me the option of and iud or nex

i was on depo provera, do NOT recommend. but they asked me specifically if i had migraines and when i said i did that’s when they made me sign the waiver. as soon as i went off it my migraines stopped being as severe

Oh ick, my doctors knew I had migraines so when I started they had me on one and my migraines were any better or worse, they did get worse with time which happens tho but never in my like 8 years of being on bc did I have to sign a waver

I think ima nex girl now, and ya I had heavy prolonged bleeding when I started and I was so over changing my tampon so often that I started using the cup and I’d go so long without pulling it out cause I didn’t have to even worry about TSS
