When I got my ParaGard IUD, I would get random, excruciating, stabbing painful cramps before/during my first couple periods having it. I stuck it out though, and they’ve stopped, and I’m glad I did because I don’t like any other birth control options, except surgical sterilization

Ok, i got mine put in at 9 am, immediately drove myself home, and laid in bed in and out of sleep for the rest of the day. The cramps were the worst for the first six hours -ish, but I didn’t feel good enough to get up and walk around until like 8 PM that night. I was ok enough to go to work the next day though. :) hope you feel better soon

Thank you! That makes me feel better because I read that it shouldn’t hurt longer than 30 minutes and I was like o-0

Oh yeah, I noticed that some of the things they tell you are just to reassure you and are “textbook answers” - not necessarily true for everyone. I will also say, and this might be TMI, but you might notice that certain sex positions that go deeper will hurt for the first few months after insertion because they pierced your cervix with a tenaculum, essentially, and its still healing, so make sure your parter knows they may need to be gentler
