The men have never been the ones naked. You’re right the women are always half naked and sexualized, but I don’t think continuing to do the same sort of thing but all by yourself is “taking that back,” I think it’s just continuing what was started long ago. This isn’t only about recent singers like sabrina carpenter or taylor swift; I remember not being allowed to watch Beyoncé or whoever else on the tv when they performed at the superbowl because it was too lewd for children.
I don’t listen to pop singers I’ll be honest. This isn’t an issue I encounter very much because it’s really an issue with “mainstream” musicians and not really anyone else. I was told I should never watch music videos from my mom and yes she did mean women and men’s. And the men I listen to are sometimes half naked and the women aren’t. It depends on who you listen to. I’m not saying that as a whole it’s not mostly women because it is. But I don’t really care what they do with their own bodies.
Besides men have historically had much much more inappropriate songs. It’s just they aren’t less clothed for it. But I remember someone like Shawn Mendez having some… sexual poses, the boy bands of the 2000’s having beach videos- things that if women did it we’d probably call it sexual.
you have a few examples of men doing slightly similar things but this whole time I haven’t said NO men do it, just that is is MOSTLY a woman thing. And like I said the lyrics aren’t the issue, it’s the branding and clothing. Shawn Mendez’s entire brand is not being sexual as far as I’m aware, as opposed to lot of female singers and celebrities in general.
I listen to djent none of my favorites do that and they’re mostly men. But surely you’ve seen stuff online about sabrina carpenter, Taylor swift, Olivia Rodrigo, etc, and music videos in the past? For example Miley cirus’s wrecking ball: turning to public displays of sexuality to be taken “seriously”
This is the second time you’ve assumed what I believe. You assumed I thought that men never have sexual themes or elements, so I made sure to clarify that it is just mostly women. Now you’re assuming I am only talking about recently. I’ve stated in all of my responses so far that I am not making those claims. I don’t know why you are trying to argue against claims I have never made and do not believe myself.
I’m not saying the sexualization of women is not an important thing. It’s been around in the music industry for decades which is my point. You said it’s mostly women so I am pointing out larger singers that do the same thing. I have mentioned multiple times that this is probably involved in the exact genre you listen to. I also acknowledge that when I mentioned not being allowed to watch music videos. But I am also saying what is seen as sexualization from women is not seen the same from men
