Did you even read my question? I said “I see women’s shoes that are open and show toes all the time.” Do you take your own advice? Do ANY of the shoes you wear show toes or feet when you are *not* at the beach (like going to school or going out on the weekend)? My question is that I see many shoes of this sort for women, so what shoes do you want men wearing if they also want to do the same?
So what if men did pedicures as often as women do? Would men be okay wearing open-toed shoes then, or would the “gender police” (like in that post, where gendered rules say it’s apparently okay for women to wear open-toed shoes but not men) still be upset by men showing their feet and toes? ALSO: If we are okay saying “your feet look disgusting” about men’s feet, that reinforces the idea that women “NEED” to get pedicures, moisturize, etc which SOME women don’t want to do (and that’s okay!).
Do you see how reinforcing restricted gendered clothing rules (like this one) harms both women and men? I also see no conversation about queer, trans, non-binary, etc in this post, either. The idea that saying “if you’re a man, never show your toes ever” will not come back to “gender police” women’s clothing, too, is short sighted.
I think what’s going on here is you are having a serious conversation and I just posted that as me throwing out my opinion half seriously. Because yes I agree that we shouldn’t hold anyone to any particular standard in theory, as long as you’re comfortable and passably clean it doesn’t bother me. Hell I’m an advocate for people being able to go naked in a lot of places if they want to. I just personally think a lot of dudes have nasty feet and I don’t wanna be seeing the dogs out in public
