I usually think he has some kind of ulterior motive. Saying it like that makes it sound really bad but I mean like, he wants a contact for when he’s absent, or he’s new and wants to make friends quickly, etc etc. I don’t mind it but I will be suspicious until I know him better

I think that’s fair. I mean, I don’t think most people talk to people in class unless they have a motive.
