Why is it normal for women to be openly misandrist? And when people call them out they’re just like “you wouldn’t be offended if it didn’t apply to you”. Like I know misogyny is worse but why be hateful to us when a lot of us didn’t do anything?

i think a huge part of it is the difference in effects misogyny and misandry have. where misogyny is likely to hurt and kill women, misandry usually just upsets men. for a lot of women, misandry is a response to a system that continues to put them down and uplift men, while femicide and assault statistics are disregarded at best

It’s a reaction to systemic oppression. Getting punched down by members of an ingroup long enough and you start hating the entire group, not just the individuals. Not speaking from experience but that’s why it happens

Idk what that even means

I get that. I just don’t think it’s an appropriate response. Not only because it’s hateful and counterproductive but also because it leads impressionable young boys who see this stuff to resent women, which is obviously a bad thing

Like even in this community it’s very common (look at the top post). Not great considering the whole point of this place is for people (usually men) to ask questions

No. I meant ingroup. I’m talking to a man and referring to men, so ingroup is the correct term here 👍

I don’t think it’s a great reaction either, but unfortunately that’s just kinda sociologically/psychologically what happens. You also can see it in the way a lot of black folks feel about white ppl haha. It absolutely is going to affect the way young men view women— however I think it’s important to note too that a LOT of that hate is primarily online, and if parents are monitoring the types of content their kids see and how long they’re online, that can definitely help keep perception

I get that, but like I said before I don’t think it’s the right way to deal with it

Eh as a black guy, ik it’s maybe not the most productive thing, but it is super cathartic like I definitely make very broad jokes or complaints about white people

But I also never say anything like that “I hate white people” or “fuck white people” and it usually has a more sarcastic, tongue in cheek edge to it so it’s kind of different

It’s the inverse of misogyny

Prejudice, contempt, or hatred of men.

i think it’s a symptom to a larger problem, like if you wanna stop women from hating men then be the change in your friend group and community to challenge men on their views about women and stand up for women, also i think it’s generally not the place of men to police women on misandry when it’s often a response to treatment from men as a group
