Have you guys ever left a significant other to focus more on your life? My life’s a mess & I know it needs my full attention & dedication but I feel like my relationship holds me back in ways.

When my life is a mess, my significant other is the only thing helping my mood and mental health. They are uplifting me. Sounds like that’s not the case for you so maybe not the right relationship

no but that’s a very normal thing to do when you’re young and your s/o isn’t like your spouse

Only if they’re definitely the type of partner that is holding you back or preventing your progress because you’ve communicated your desire to change/grow etc. and they’re making it difficult. But if you’ve told them what you need and they’re a good partner, they will help you build the life you want and make things easier and not harder like #2 said

I’m a guy, so like take this with a grain of salt, and sorry if I’m overstepping my bounds: At times when I feel like my life is a mess, I’m struggling or whatever, my girlfriend is my source of strength and stability. If anything those are the moments when I am most reminded why I need her and love her. If your present situation is making you have doubts about your relationship, then maybe you should reconsider. I don’t think you should feel that way with a significant other, but that’s just me

Have you communicated this to your partner? They deserve to know if you need to change your priorities

But it wasn’t just because we were in a relationship and that would take energy, it was because the relationship had issues that might’ve been fixable but not without prioritizing them over fixing my life
