There’s a kid from Azerbaijan on my schools wrestling team and it’s clear he doesn’t see women or girls as equals. He’s really good friends with my boyfriend though bc they’re team captains. How do I deal with him without coming across as islamophobic?

Islam has nothing to do with it and places emphasis on respecting and treating all women equally despite what ever islamophobic posts you might have seen online spreading outdated false rhetoric. Misogyny is universal and that needs to be addressed and stopped.

Next time he brings up religion to justify his misogyny, ask him what the prophet said about his wives and all women. Also, most religious people, including myself, believe in absolute truth irregardless of religion, government, or anything else. Ask him if he can justify his misogynistic take without bringing Allah.

You could prove him wrong? If there’s anything he says about women that’s not true for you, show it off a bit. Flaunt it. Make it REALLY OBVIOUS that he is wrong. If he’s capable of self-reflection, he will question himself and maybe unlearn his sexist socialization. If he’s just s jerk, it will simply be more obvious.

He is Muslim. And he is very degrading towards women. And when people call him out on it, he tries to spin himself as a victim

He is the one that tries to spin it as islamophobic when people call him out on him being mean to queer kids or misogynistic

Well sucks for him he’s not in Azerbaijan anymore he can GET WITH THE PROGRAM. There are hundreds of Muslims who aren’t assholes to women. You can be a Muslim and not a jerk.

Oh, well that’s not islamophobic. He kinda needs a lesson in where a person is allowed to put boundaries. Either that or he doesn’t even care and is just a jerk hiding behind the mask of religion.

As a kid, I showed up a kid who thought no girl could beat him at a game. Shut him up when I mopped the floor with him. In high school, the guys sometimes said stuff about us belonging in the kitchen, from their seat behind me in math class, while I had my hand up to do a problem in front of the class that they didn’t understand. There was no question in anyone’s mind about who really belonged in that classroom, and really I didn’t care what they said because math was more interesting.
