Why is love called “bare minimum” for men but “desperate” when women do the same?

Because we’ve normalized men giving less, so when they show care it’s praised. Women are expected to overgive, so it’s seen as desperate. Like a girl pays for dinner and it’s “he using you,” “could never be me” but he does it and it’s “a real man” “bare minimum”.

I don’t think ppl normalized it though they just recognize a lot of the things men have been doing are the bare minimum in the expectation that women will date them/sleep with them bc of being incapable of actually showing more to get attention. If women did the reverse men would think she’s desperate or “easy” out of toxic masculinity. But who else was doing it if they weren’t

Bc ppl live by gender roles that literally don’t even exist. As a society we’re more likely to live based on collective thought than what we actually think ourselves. Most people don’t even consider what they think or how they feel about something, only what the norm is.
