Finally got “approved” to have a kitty! I used to have one named C4 and she helped me keep my room clean as it was “do it for her” and I’m hoping the same will happen with whoever I adopt. Any tips on cat proofing a dorm?

I live with a cat in my dorm and I like having a litter mat to catch the litter before it goes all over the floor! also get a small broom and dustpan

i have flushable, anti-tracking litter (tidy cats breeze litter system, it’s pine pellets) and it’s the best thing ever. i’d also say get toys that the cat can play with on its own, because when you’re gone all day if the cat gets bored it’s going to destroy things unless it has adequate entertainment

I say “approved” as I’m friends with the res life director and he oked it as I can’t afford a psychologist for an ESA note, I’m getting a steel littler pan for smell, making a closet their safe space, filter water dispenser, window perch, small cat tree, and my current idea is to put cheap carpet on the wood in my dorm to protect from scratching

Make a door cage with storage box tiles, zip ties and a carabiner clip to foil escape artist tendencies

Consider saving up and investing in one of those cat wheels, or some stationary way for it to get exercise. While many cats will be content to lounge around, it’s important to give them some amount of exercise when they live in a dorm room

Get a safe place your cat can hang out if they need to be contained. Not necessarily a crate that locks. but maybe a cat tower or smaller den like thing the cat could retreat to if needed bc it’s sometimes loud and overwhelming in the dorms. Also, make plans for if/when she gets sick so you aren’t caught unawares :)

also get it used to clipping its nails early because that will seriously reduce the risk of furniture damage
