
a lot of behaviors that would be an anxiety disorder (extreme otherthinking or overpreparing, catastrophizing) in a neurotypical are a pretty logical response to living with neurodiversity because we actually do consistently get screwed over for being ourselves or being unfamiliar with a system. you can’t really therapize or cope or medicate your way out of anxiety if your fears are pretty rational for your circumstances. the difference for autistics is probably in how debilitating it is
like frequent full on panic attacks, getting sick from anxiety, avoiding or isolating not because of the initial fear you’re concerned about but because of the physical sensation of terror. a lot of the other anxiety criteria doesn’t really work for a population that does experience worst case scenarios out of our control regularly.
