I've never heard that specific critique of TOH, but I definitely agree that the show gets better as it goes on. and even though I love her development, I still liked early Luz a lot; she just felt real in a way I couldn't put my finger on, like she could be a person I'd meet at that age and not just a character I'd have to suspend my disbelief to imagine the same thing
