They’re both true. Women do mature faster (both physically and mentally), and they get punished, blamed, sexualized, and expected to cope earlier. They’re not mutually exclusive. There’s a reason women have a higher average life expectancy, and numerous reasons for the feminist movements.

Even women who grow up in environments where this isn’t a factor mature more quickly. Yes, this factor probably accelerates it more, but it’s not the only reason women mature faster than boys.

There are a handful of places. There are several villages in the world that operate on matriarchal systems, and we can also look at historical matriarchal societies. In these societies, the subtle discrimination women face is nearly, if not fully, eliminated. And women still mature faster than boys there.

And how do you know that women still mature faster in these outlier communities? And “subtle discrimination” women face…? Women’s suffrage is not a global guarantee. Femicide as deliberate hate crimes are still rampant. If you’re in a country where you’re allowed to read, write, work, etc— that’s amazing. But not every nation is like that.

The stuff pointed out by OP are subtle discriminations. And you’re right, there are places where the discrimination isn’t subtle. I thank God every day that I’m not one of those places. But the discussion at hand here is about the subtle stuff, not the mega obvious stuff

Don’t move the goal post. This is about everything-stuff. Those “subtle discriminations” become gigantic when women and girls are treated as responsible for the behaviors of men. Then they’re forced to stay out of workforces and schools, and everything else. Minimizing the stakes is not a good way to defend your claim. Again, how do you know that these girls mature faster in these small matriarchal societies?

Children and babies get sexualized. It’s still very clear that they were discussing mental maturity. I’m not a bioessentialist so i disagree. I don’t think maturing faster physically correlates to mental maturity. Otherwise you should see mental and emotional maturity be fully developed closely after puberty. You don’t see that.

If your thoughts of physical maturity being the reason people mentally mature, not only would mental maturity finish directly after puberty, but the difference in when men and women finish maturing would be the same difference as when boys and girls hit puberty (the difference between boys and girls is 2 years) However, the mental maturity gap is a full decade. 32 and 43. So your logic continued to its full extent does not follow.

It could be a combination of both. Because they physically mature faster, their pre-frontal cortex is included in that, so they mature mentally faster. But could that be evolution due to the fact that society expected them to? Because in the oldest bones we have, it's very difficult to tell the men from the women
