Just found out that (apparently) when you say “See you later” and someone responds, “Not if I see you first,” it’s not a phrase meaning that if they literally see you first in person, you’ll catch up. It’s passive aggressive and means they’ll avoid you.
I always thought they meant that literally they might see me first, or that it was some lighthearted threat that they were gonna find me or something

So, basically, when people say “Not if I see you first,” they mean that if they were to see you first at a later time, they would leave to avoid interacting with you, and you’d never see them as a result. It’s a passive aggressive reply/sort of joke (I guess?).

oh. i hate that. it seems like it’s supposed to be a cute light hearted joke
