I’m bad in social situations and upset people by not reading the room. I’ve decided instead of worrying about it I should assume everything is fine unless stated by the other person. Is this a good idea? Can I assume others will communicate like I would?

No, and they won’t. You’ll become isolated

Individuals who are not on the autism spectrum typically do not explicitly communicate their needs or feelings. They often expect others to interpret social cues and understand unspoken signals. If someone fails to do so, they may become increasingly dismissive and, eventually, may behave rudely. Therefore, although it may not always be comfortable, being attentive to social cues can be important for maintaining positive interactions and personal well-being.

ive found ppl only get more upset when u pretend like everything is ok. they never clearly say that theyre upset but still get mad when u dont realize theyre upset. theres like certain things to look for with ppl, like if they get super quiet and withdrawn, if their responses get rlly short, sometimes they will say stuff that hints at it. idk if everything is ok then its fine but ive learned to rlly look for these things bc ppl only get more upset. i think its bc they believe that you Do notice-

…especially if building relationships with others is a priority. It can be challenging, and at times, despite best c efforts, misunderstandings occur. I have experienced uncomfortable situations as a result of this…. as have many others.

Do you have any tips? This makes sense but I’m not quite sure how to help and I don’t want to always be worrying if I’ve upset someone

Unfortunately, I do not. I have watched a few YouTube videos to improve my understanding of facial cues and communication to better connect with others in an approachable manner. It seems to have helped somewhat. However, it can be quite exhausting.
