I’ve been on both sides so I can understand, except the person I was over compensating for didn’t have autism and just decided to not act like an adult. Direct quote: “I just turn my brain off when we go out because I know you’ll make sure I’m ok”. We’re 22 and she literally with almost walk into traffic if I don’t stop her. Not even on her phone she just will not think. Meanwhile I have autism and managing her makes it hard to manage my “battery” for things before being overwhelmed

I used to but now ik it's not my fault that nobody is educated on autism or communicates properly, or that I didn't know about it or how to act bc I was never made aware
