Probably because of how much time we’ve spent evolving as a social/visual species. Eyes go right into the brain, and communication was important before language developed so “emotions-in-face/eyes” helped tribes form. It’s much easier to mask if you learn about how eyes are read, you can definitly fake that “twinkle” of a natural smile
