tfw you just turned 21 in a legal state and are discovering the VERYYY high-risk (but very effective for me) ARFID/sensory hack: alcohol has so many calories and weed skyrockets my food tolerance/appetite….

Please please please don’t mix them both and don’t use weed if you have ANY history of schizophrenia in your family. If you do, having weed can make it so latent genes are activated.

It’s a slippery slope but it’s definitely a form of medication, weed helps me eat and express myself, alcohol helps me unmask.

Weed has really helped my ARFID, I try new foods when I’m high because it feels less scary and sometimes I “unlock” a new food and can eat it sober afterwards. Alcohol has really helped my sensory issues and I do enjoy a drink at parties! Just make sure to set hard boundaries and limits and have more supports than just substances and you should be okay.

This is something I learned about in neuroscience of drug abuse. The weed if you are of a vulnerable group has no evidence of being reversible.

I think he’s saying that the study your referring to, genes activated by environment, is epigenetics

This happened to my gf in Highschool, although it’s not always just weed it’s also a trauma history that cause those genes to activate. She’s doing okay and responded well to medication, and still smokes weed bc it’s not like she’ll get it activated again lol.
