Sold my first cake from my home bakery and my dad said “yay first sale of over $100” and my mom said “haha ya and it costed us $125” (I sold the cake for 120). My parents paid for the ingredients but not any of the tools or supplies that I had to buy for

That specific cake, I had to buy pans 2 sets of fondant cutters, rolling pin and packaging all of that didn’t cost even over 100$ and this prob sounds dramatic but like hearing that as my moms comment is disheartening I guess

Fuck your parents, good job on you! Starting any business is hard bc of the supplies you have to buy, don’t give up! I’d market yourself, start by buying what you need (and finding it cheaper) and watch yourself grow.

It’s your first time! That’s typically the most expensive bc u have to buy all the stuff. If u get a large influx of customers, look into a bakery store that sells supplies in bulk it tends to be cheaper. I used to sell cakes for $2 a serving and almost never broke even lmao so maybe don’t take advice from me

Figuring out pricing is so hard 😂 so far hobby lobby has been the cheapest especially with on of the brands they have it’s 50% off. I went to school for baking & pastry arts but doing it at home is so incredibly different bc I don’t have the same tools space or equipment but what’s I get a groove im sure it’ll get easier
