I think it’s definitely been overlooked for so long, I mean even from applying to schools rn there’s only like ~30 college options in the US (which is CRAZY in comparison to literally all other post grad/med school numbers, and ALL states need veterinarians bc the pet industry is never gonna end obviously yet not every state has a vet college) and each school only takes so many students for each class, so the need really isn’t being met
Not to mention especially bc people have to go out of state for school, bc lots of states don’t have colleges or co-ops with a state that does have one, so the tuition and debt along with a rigorous 4 years of additional school PLUS the mental trauma lots of vets go through (which leads to higher suicide rates in the field) is really deterring for people to want to join the field too. If u can’t tell I rllllly hate the system vet med has and the lack of change and progress to adapt to the needs
Of ppl and rather keep raising prices of schooling for an occupation that is in desperate NEED by literally everyone🥰 it’s just frustrating and overlooked by lots of people not in the field, which is fair bc like I don’t keep track of other occupations’ stuff but yeah it’s gonna be interesting to see what happens in the future lol (holy balls sorry for the rant😭)
