Because NATO signed an agreement to never expand into Eastern Europe. The the US did a coup in Ukraine in 2014 (with the help of neo nazis and the far right), and the coup government in 2021 tried to allow a NATO base in Ukraine near Russia’s border.

one can be upset with the US military’s actions and still support a country defending itself from attack. the two are not mutually exclusive, especially since the majority recent US wars were not defending itself, rather fighting for monetary interests. post wwii our involvement in war has been unnecessary.
