new to makeup: how do you find the right foundation shade? I stg I’ve gone through like half a dozen by now and it’s always way too dark. I’ve tried all the common tests

Sometimes worst case you have to mix shades together to get the right one. Also make sure you aren’t applying too much because when it’s caked on it can look a little darker.

Also, foundation usually has a display of the skin tone. I try matching the back of my hand to it and see the closest I can get.

it sounds like you might be trying ones that oxidize a bit I would try a swatch lighter than you think with the right undertones and then let it sit on the skin for a while to see what happens you also can ask for samples of products at sephora and ulta and they will make one so you don’t have to buy a whole bottle

You can always go to a Sephora or Ulta for the employees to help you shade match you should match it to your chest or neck

Ive tried matching it to my face a few times but it still ends up a bit too dark

also try in different lighting (ie natural lighting, your home, school or work) sometimes the store lights are so different than lighting you would be in everyday
