if you’re not supposed to wash your hair every single day in a row, what do you do to reduce greasiness on the days you don’t wash?

how much you wash your hair directly depends on how oily it gets. so if it gets really greasy in one day then it’s good for you to keep washing it every day

I shampoo every other day and do leave in conditioner with heat protection. Condition twice a week. But I have THICK wavy hair with oily ass roots

washing it everyday is absolutely fine and is recommended especially for people with hairloss. i shampoo my hair everyday and i have curly hair and it’s doing much better than when i washed it once a week. people of all hair types can wash it every day. you want to make sure you blow dry it every time though, especially your scalp. leaving your scalp and hair wet for hours will cause inflammation of the scalp and damage to the hair shaft. using heat is fine just use a heat protectant.

I heard not washing it for several days in a row after each shower “trains it” to reduce oiliness. Is this true?

I did this when I had a month of no responsibilities before I started a new job after classes. Yes it works and then you have to be consistent with a routine. Yes you also look like your head was dunked in a bucked of grease by day three so do this at your own risk. I washed my body but put hair in a shower cap. Didn’t wash for 5-6 days. Then started washing twice a week. That’s what worked for my thin but densely packed long hair w high porosity. But I also know it depends on hair type.

as a hairdresser no that is not true. the oiliness of your scalp has nothing to do with how often you wash it. it’s genetic and hormonal. not shampooing your hair can lead to hairloss though. you don’t want to leave oil on your scalp

i think people believe shampooing everyday is bad for their hair because they aren’t drying it. because everyone i’ve ever seen that has started shampooing and blow drying their hair more often has said their hair is more manageable, less dry, less oily, and less flakey. there are also studies that have concluded the same thing 😊

THIS‼️‼️ I plop (damp hair in a 100% cotton shirt) and I notice a huge difference when I do and don’t

uhhh it definitely is true. i’ve done this several times. the more i wash my hair, the quicker it gets oily. the less i wash my hair, eventually i can go 5 days until needing to wash my hair again. you CAN train it.

i think you’re right. over-washing your hair, or even your face, causes it to dry out and your body’s mechanism is to replenish it with extra oil. it’s no wonder only going ONE day without washing my hair that it gets crazy oily

it may work for you but it’s not good for your hair long term.

using heat is fine. one study concluded air drying was more damaging than blowdrying with heat.

just a heads up dry shampoo is linked to hairloss because it clogs your hair follicles. basically anything but shampooing often is linked to hairloss. it’s great in a pinch but not ideal to use long term or very often

i did hear that as well. air drying allows too much moisture to stay in ur hair and they say not to sleep with wet hair either and i have a bad habit of that as a night showerer

if washing your face seems to make it oilier you might have a damaged skin barrier and could benefit from products that heal it like centella asiatica
