Canva has convinced too many people that they are artists too lmfao

Are they good? No. Do they deserve to exist? Absolutely. And no one should feel shamed for enjoying them. They’re literally labeled as a “beach read” for a reason- they’re not highbrow lit and they’re not pretending to be. They just fun and stupid and nice Sorry for the aggression, I don’t mean this, I just see this sentiment a lot and people get mean about it sometimes

I don’t read these books, but I don’t hate on anyone who writes a book or reads what they want to read. More people need to read and I’ll never criticize people that do it.

Cover art is not literature my friend. And many good books have trendy covers. This just happens to be the current trend. Y’all would be so much happier if you posted about things you like rather than taking digs at what OTHER people like.

don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy these type of books, but I do think the cover ruins them. and yes, sometimes I do judge a book by its cover.

it didn’t say “genre of book cover” it said “flavor of book cover” is the worse “genre of literature”. not ambiguous, just nonsensical

....a lot of people are taking this as an attack on the content of these books or the people who read them. It's not that, the covers are just ugly and generic lmao

Then the person that wrote this isn’t very literate because it says “the worst genre of literature,” which is the type of book and not the cover art. Perhaps OP needs to read more books?

I don’t know - I understood it as that very particular cover style that’s become, well, kind of everywhere. I’m 100% all for cute fun beach reads and can’t stand those elitist reading types that denigrate any entire genre of book! (Especially romance, I suspect it’s dumped on the most because they’re associated with women). I just wonder what demographic test/survey they must have did that made so many release books with this same exact cover style?

me when I only see the second part of sentences because reading is hard

upvote 16 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 8w

also the sentence isn’t just saying a book cover is a genre of literature. It is saying a type of book cover is a genre of literature. Thus specifying a “genre of book cover” as a member “of” literature. It has ambiguous meaning but one such ambiguity is still grammatically and semantically correct.

It’s both I think. They’re stacked together under a label because they’re all a similar vibe/genre (I’d guess a romance/light bodice ripper at most) and they all have a similar cover because that’s what’s trending for the genre right now. It goes together

Huh i wonder if flavor of book cover and genre of book cover could be synonymous. I guess flavors and genres are completely different though lmfao

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 8w

the definition of genre is “a category of artistic composition, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject.” OP categorized a style (“flavor”) of book cover based on their stylistic similarities

If you’ve got nothing better to do than try and correct someone’s grammar in a way that isn’t even relevant to the conversation, at least make damn sure that you are correct.
