Peak fiction. Unironically, a fun book to read, and I’ve picked up a few new words, reading it.

oh I absolutely loved this book I’d recommend reading the Uncensored version in tandem, it gives more insight into the relationships between the characters, but because it is the unedited version it leaves out some of the more important plot/dialogue points. It’s just interesting to get both sides

I’m sorry to be that guy but I absolutely hated this book. I wish I could love it or at least like it but unfortunately I can’t :(

I had to read it for three different classes in college and I couldn’t do it each time. It’s really hard to get into when single sentences can last for entire paragraphs and paragraphs can last for over a page. It’s just a horrible writing style. I understand that it has something to do with how Oscar Wilde was paid, but I just can’t do it. Borderline unreadable to me. I respect Oscar Wilde’s talent but holy fuck the characters take ten pages to tell something that can be explained in ten words

sort of- I’m talking about the original typescript, but there are actually 3 different versions of this book: the original typescript sent to Lippincott (as seen here, officially published in 2012) the version that got made into the short installments in the Lippincott paper that has some edits to remove some of the homoerotic content. and then the version we are all familiar with published in 1891 as a book format with the original Lippincott edits and further rewriting by Wilde himself.
