The Things They Carried by Tim OBrien is about the Vietnam war. None of the specific events happened but it’s meant to evoke very strong feelings in the reader in order to mirror what the characters felt. Very interesting with the fiction is truer than non fiction idea.

The Martian by Andy Weir is scifi but with as much real science as possible about what would happen if someone was stranded on Mars in the near future
