I’m looking for book recs that stand out or are distinct. Not just another book of tropes and common themes. Something I’m gonna remember out of the books I’ve read this year. Any ideas? I’m up for any genre

between two fires by christopher buehlman. it’s a post-apocalyptic story, but the apocalypse is the black death and an upcoming war on heaven (the story is set in 1348). HEAVY trigger warnings but so so good

Agree, agree. I read cats cradle for school and it was so unique. I need to read something else by him. Any suggestions on which one?

Slaughterhouse five goes without saying, personally I liked Sirens of Titan and Jailbird. Very fun writer with interesting books, whenever I want to shake things up he never disappoints.

What were your thoughts on the crying of lot 49? I tried starting it, but it was so dense😭

because of its length i think it's probably the best introduction to pynchon's work (the other option being inherent vice, which is longer but a little bit easier to follow) unfortunately the density is just a trait of pynchon's writing but overall i think the way he tells his stories is fascinating and the journey is always fun

out of the three books i've read by him it was probably my least favorite but that's just because the journeys in V and Inherent Vice feel so much more involved, and it's more impressive that he was able to make everything relevant in them because they're so much longer
