What is up with hockey romance authors and dehumanizing/slut shaming blonde women constantly in their books? I really don’t get it, it’s always a short brunette protagonist that talks negatively about other women

Blondes are always seen as slutty and stupid, brunettes as plain and boring, redheads as loud and sometimes ugly. And this is coming from a male reader. If I’m picking up on this shit too then you know it’s an issue. And don’t even get me started on how women of color are treated

They’re booing you but you’re right. It’s almost always a small, mousy brown haired girl vs a blond. Coming from a mousy brown haired girl.

the kind of women likely to publish romance novels is probably skewed statistically towards a certain demographic and they like to feel good about themselves, sometimes by putting others down!

As someone who writes for a hobby, I honestly keep forgetting the hair colors of my characters. I probably put it down once, but in my mind it could be anything.

Finger on the pulse. They writer characters as a body before a person. If it were treated as a flaw that’d be interesting, but it never is.

I get so dissapointed when they say they’re short in the first chapter and then repeatedly mention it in every other chapter🙃

Ngl a lot of the time I look up what the author of the book looks like and a lot of things make a lot more sense. Like it becomes more apparent that it’s a self insert and they’re just projecting their insecurities
