Portraying children like that is not ok. Especially in the YA genre. She definitely needed to be told no on some things, that writing stuff like that isn’t ok. It was excessive for the sake of shock factor. She definitely needs to reflect.

OP of the original post. I understand what you are saying but I don’t think you read everything I said. You are entitled to your opinion but degrading someone is never acceptable. She talks about real things that happen everyday, it’s not for everyone. YA or not doesn’t matter, this series is heavily talked about as having mature themes that are triggering to some people. That is openly talked about everywhere online publicly. It was written bc it was HER story growing up not for shock factor.

I understand it was very graphic but it’s important for people to do research, if they know they are heavily triggered by certain things, instead of blindly opening a book. That’s what I did for haunting Adeline, you can’t blame an author for others lack of researching skills.

Nah there should not be graphic CSA in YA. Just like sex in YA needs to be off page/ fade to black and not detailed and explicit. YAs shouldn’t have to read a laundry list of trigger warnings in their own age group.
