That’s funny cuz if you read a lot you would know that there has always been smut in books and it’s not modern or genre exclusive. I know plenty of “real” books and snobby lit that has smut or sex scenes in it. I get your criticism of modern lit because yes smut is being used as a crutch for bad writing, but your thought that smut in general means a book is bad is super out of touch and just indicates you don’t have much knowledge of the space.
Are you talking to me or OP? Because I never said anything to the contrary. I’m the first person to defend reading preferences from smutty romance and fanfiction to horror and classics. All reading is valid. And if you’re going to be snobby about a genre you don’t enjoy instead of talking about what you DO enjoy, then you do have a superiority complex. You only want to put down others. Like OP. I’m really not sure who you’re responding to here, 2 🧐
It’s not a superiority complex it’s common sense. Everyone outside this bubble looks down on booktok/fantasy slop. It’s low effort entertainment. Junk food. You may not like that and it’s fine, but the childish one is not me, I’m not the one reading books for childish adults in arrested development
Your opinion does not equal common sense or popular vote. As a bookseller, you’re simply wrong. The majority of people a) enjoy smutty lit, b) don’t but don’t give a fuck about if other people do or c) fall somewhere in between (not caring, reading it sometimes, etc). A very small percentage of people d) have a personal issue with what other people read and make it their asshole mission to comment on it. It’s none of your business. Read something else and shut up, but do not for negativity.
