Usually silence, but if I’ve either read the book before or heard the songs enough times that I don’t have to listen to the words I might have music on. If I’m in someones car or a public space it also doesn’t bother me if music plays

I have to have music but it has to be instrumental, no lyrics.

I’ll listen to music that fits the vibe but never in the language I’m reading in, that would be too distracting

Background music for me is only for math or science, otherwise any reading involved requires miscellaneous background noise (like a coffee shop, but like not one conversation I can listen to entirely right next to me yk)

i listen to music like 95% of the time when i’m reading but usually only songs that i know almost every word so that it’s not distracting

I definitely read a lot slower (typically 30 pages over the course of a movie whereas I can read ~100pages an hour if I’m reading alone)
