They buy the rights to a certain number of digital copies, so there is a wait like with physical. It seems ridiculous but also libraries can only afford a certain number of ebooks etc.

Libby is a product that libraries buy access to for their patrons. What you see on Libby through your library is different from what I see on Libby through mine.

Just like with software, your library must buy a license for each copy of the book they offer. Their cost is usually considerably more expenses than retail because that’s how publishers in this country make money.
