Just encountered a man who doesn’t own a single book written by a woman and may not have read any either. Absolutely wack

I actually just did a quick thought check of this. I think I’m about 60/40 men to women in terms of authors, but I honestly didn’t think about it at all until now.

It’s possible that the genre he prefers is simply dominated by male authors, and not a deliberate choice on his part about the type of author he reads.

It is because of his genre. He reads exclusively fantasy and classics, both of which are dominated by cis straight white men. But to me it seems like he has zero interest in anything not written by a straight white man because there’s plenty of fantasy novels out there that are written by diverse authors and he doesn’t even try to seek them out. Maybe it’s a me thing but I’m very aware of which authors I read and who they are.

I mean, it’s about the story. Like I’m a woman and I don’t care if my author is black, Asian, white, girl, boy, straight, gay, whatever. Like I can’t even tell you the race/orientation of my authors cause I genuinely don’t care. It’s about the story. I understand it’s an ick if he’s accidentally avoiding other authors, but if he just tends to like cis straight white stories, then let him have it.

Like, I read a boy love book called Banana Fish awhile back and guess who wrote it? Not a gay man. I primarily read stuff written by men because the action is usually more fun and the book is usually gorier. That being said, I never chose Poet X because the lady was non-white nor have I read Julie Kagawa because she was a woman. It’s just about the story

I mean if It’s the Same with him, about the story and all, then it’s a coincidence
